"... Because when you stop and look around,
this life is pretty amazing"
Photography is a passion of mine. I have always been the photographer who's not afraid to lay down on the ground, stand knee deep in a lake, climb a tree, or balance precariously on a rock ledge to get the perfect shot.
I enjoy exploring unique angles in image composition and try to capture elements that may seem unexpected. Though I believe I have a distinctive outlook, I also enjoy taking more standardized portrait, studio or product images. There is a certain beauty in the conformity of classically framed photography that I often try to master in addition to mastering the unexpected.
I think with the current advancements in digital photography, camera-phone photographers, and pretty excellent non-DSLR cameras, photography has become a bit of a thinly spread art. However, it remains ever important to me to stand on the leading edge of photography, and I am always trying to produce an image that surpasses the expectations of the viewer. As the standard for 'amazing' increases, I plan to be there continually working to push the boundaries...one Pye Productions Photo at a time.
As a professional photographer, I presently use my trusted Canon 6D. With it I have my all important nifty-50mm f1.8 II lens, the EF24-105mm IS kit lens, an EF70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens, various wide-angle and fish-eye lenses, a multitude of filters, a monopod, gorilla pod, and pivot-ball 360 degree tilt head full tripod. In addition, I am an expert when it comes to image editing. I prefer working in Lightroom 5 and Adobe Creative Suite 5, including graphic design through Photoshop and Illustrator. With my increasing aptitude, a large arsenal of gear, and ceaseless talent, I am ready for any picture, at any time.
I am a Canon girl at heart, though I have used and gained respect for Nikon cameras over the years. My first DSLR was a Nikon D500, which was handed down to me and used for many years before 'upgrading' to a Canon D1100. I have since worked jobs which provided Nikon D5100, Nikon D600, and Canon 5D Mark III. I still keep my Canon D1100 around and use it mainly as a point-and-shoot, since it's capabilities are rather lacking compared to professional grade cameras.
One aspect of my photography that I truly take pride in is the ability to include myself in images while still being the photographer. I have acquired a wide range of gear to support my 'self-portraits', including a wireless remote shutter. I mark my predetermined location in the photo, position myself, and snap the shot. Self-portraits prove to be a challenge sometimes, but I feel they broaden my understanding of composition and help me to better appreciate life in front of the camera.
I graduated in May 2012 with a BA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Photography and Illustration. Though most of my technical skills have been self taught through extensive independent study and trial and error, college classes helped fine-tune my control of settings such as ISO, Shutter Speed, F-stops, etc., especially in the heat of the moment. I consider myself to be well educated and professional behind a camera, and will always do everything I can to get that shot.
